The Ins and Outs of an In-Network Dentist

When you select an in-network dentist, you will be able to reap the most from your Aetna dental benefits plan. It works like this: we have already negotiated set fees for covered services. These fees are contractually set so we are unable to charge anything more.

Aetna Dental Insurance Plans

Aetna offers four different types of plans. While these four differ slightly from one another, they all offer subscribers cost savings. The plans are:

• Network Only Dental Plans or Dental Maintenance Organization (DMO®)
• Network Option Dental Plans or Preferred Provider Organization (PPO)
• Dental Indemnity Plan
• Hybrid Dental Plans

Glossary of Dental Insurance Terms

Half of understanding any insurance policy is knowing what the different terms mean. In the case of dental insurance benefits, there is a large overlap with medical insurance, but there are also some differences. Some common terms include:

Premium. The monthly or annual amount of money you pay for the privilege of having dental insurance.

Deductible. The amount of money you pay out-of-pocket before you Aetna dental benefits begin to pay.

Copay. The usually small out-of-pocket expense you pay at the time of service for any dental care.

The difference between medical and dental insurance is time limit and annual benefits maximum on most dental insurance plans. Your coverage typically will run from January 1st through December 31st of any calendar year. Within that time, Aetna dental benefits will pay up to an annual maximum. Spending all of your benefits is to the advantage of your smile and your wallet.
